After reading a few articles on the virtues of Augustinus Bader's The Rich Cream, my curiosity got the best of me and so I put a nice big dent in my Neiman Marcus credit card to try it for myself.
The cream claims to activate stems cells, boosting them into "healing mode". It also claims to be the only treatment you will need, in fact, it's supposed to work best without any other product to compete with on your skin. It certainly simplifies a nighttime routine; no toners, serums or night creams needed. Just this Rich Cream. The good doctor recommends using the cream for 27 days, I assume it's because that is the average cell turnover cycle, but I'm guessing here.
I woke up this morning to my lovely man stroking my cheek, then pushing it in a little, then pinching it a little, snickering at the way it bounced back. "It's so soft, so smooth" he said, "It's shiny". (NOTE: It wasn't shiny oily, it was shiny like an apple gets after you polish it a bit). After the poking and pinching out of my sleepy stupor it dawned on me, it's day 27, and my face is like an apple. So, it works. The Rich Cream works, but I don't like it. I don't like Botox injections or microneedling either, but I do it, because Botox injections and microneedling also work.
As to why I don't like it, well, despite the gorgeous packaging, it's just not sexy. It smells clinical, and for a rich cream, it's not very rich, it feels a bit like glue at first, not much slip to it, but that goes away and it does absorb after a bit of massaging. I thought I would be thrilled with pairing down my routine to just one step, but every night I would look longingly at my other products and wish I could use them too. I missed my ritual and the comforting scent of my night cream.
My 27 days are up and tonight I will go back to my serums and creams. I will use The Rich Cream again eventually, when I'm ready. Because it works.
