The Good and the Bader

After reading a few articles on the virtues of Augustinus Bader's The Rich Cream, my curiosity got the best of me and so I put a nice big dent in my Neiman Marcus credit card to try it for myself.

The cream claims to activate stems cells, boosting them into "healing mode".  It also claims to be the only treatment you will need, in fact, it's supposed to work best without any other product to compete with on your skin.  It certainly simplifies a nighttime routine;  no toners, serums or night creams needed.  Just this Rich Cream.  The good doctor recommends using the cream for 27 days, I assume it's because that is the average cell turnover cycle, but I'm guessing here.

I woke up this morning to my lovely man stroking my cheek, then pushing it in a little, then pinching it a little, snickering at the way it bounced back.  "It's so soft, so smooth" he said, "It's shiny".  (NOTE: It wasn't shiny oily, it was shiny like an apple gets after you polish it a bit).    After the poking and pinching out of my sleepy stupor it dawned on me, it's day 27, and my face is like an apple.  So, it works.  The Rich Cream works, but I don't like it.  I don't like Botox injections or microneedling either, but I do it, because Botox injections and microneedling also work.

As to why I don't like it, well, despite the gorgeous packaging, it's just not sexy.  It smells clinical, and for a rich cream, it's not very rich, it feels a bit like glue at first, not much slip to it, but that goes away and it does absorb after a bit of massaging.  I thought I would be thrilled with pairing down my routine to just one step, but every night I would look longingly at my other products and wish I could use them too. I missed my ritual and the comforting scent of my night cream.

My 27 days are up and tonight I will go back to my serums and creams.  I will use The Rich Cream again eventually, when I'm ready.  Because it works.

Shed that skin

Your twenty-something daughter/niece/boss has enviable bouncy, smooth, glowing skin.  Know why?  Her skin cells turnover at the alarming rate of 14-21 days!   Like most everything else, as we age,  our skin cell turnover rates slow down.  For quinquas, cell turnover rates are at a painfully slow 60 - 90 days.  Why is that bad?  Well,  those creepy, slow cells hang out on the surface of your skin, making it sag and wrinkle, blotch and fold in on itself.    Don't fret!  There is a foolproof way to speed up that cell turnover and kick those dead cells to the curb.  E-X-F-O-L-I-A-T-I-O-N.  There are a couple of methods and loads of products available out there in beauty world to exfoliate your skin. The first method, manual exfoliation,  can be as simple as a face brush, such as the ever popular  Clarisonic or a facial scrub, my favorite is  Lancer The Method: Polish.     If gadgets are your thing, the  Michael Todd Sonicsmooth At-Home Dermaplaning kit  is a great tool.  It leaves

Cosmetic Emissions

Yesterday, I found myself blowing up the comment thread on my Facebook page with product recommendations for a beauty tool I use.  I was grinning like a maniac, banging out my responses complete with pictures and links.  I was thoroughly enjoying myself until I remembered there are probably some friends that didn't really care to have their phones going off with my comments about needles and serums. So I said "Hey, maybe I should just post all of this somewhere else...somewhere better...but where?"  Oh yeah! Blog!     Oh god, blog.  Another blog.  A blog about beauty products and skincare and aging...because there are no blogs like that out there in the Interverse.   Not a word. Made it up.   Just now.  Someone probably already did.  My word now. I confess I don't know the first thing about creating a blog that someone would want to read.  I don't take good pictures and video would likely be poorly-lit, out-of-focus shots of my nose and possibly one eye.   I can
